Sidekick:

Auto-Note vs Smart Dictation

Sidekick supports two modes for recording audio, Auto-note and Smart Dictation. The features of each mode are outlined in the table below. Please note, it is possible to start and stop either mode during a patient encounter and to even move between the two modes.

Auto-note

Smart Dictation

Use case

Used to record the conversation between patient and provider. Sidekick will interpret the conversation and will complete all available sections of the note based on the encounter.

The user talks directly to the computer and says what they want to get added into the note. Sidekick will clean up their phrasing and will categorize and improve the ordering of the statements appropriately.

Sections to be generated

Sidekick will write content for all sections of the note based on the content of the conversation as well as any other contextual information manually placed in the document (such as dx code or pain scale).

Sidekick will generate note content based only on the direct dictation it receives. It will write content for the specific note sections addressed in the recording. Other existing text-based features (goal and assessment generation) continue to work independently in your note based on the non-audio note content.

Content generation

Uses more predictive algorithms in the interest of creating a more complete note for the user.

Only addresses the specific points mentioned in the recording.

Templated statements

More likely to include templated phrases such as “The patient would benefit from physical therapy to improve…” in the Assessment section of the note.

Less likely to include templated phrases evaluated for compliance unless explicitly dictated.

Goals

For initial evaluations, Sidekick will attempt to generate goals based on the content of the conversation.

Will not write goals unless they are specifically dictated.

Uses existing patient info?

Depending on the EMR, Sidekick will read patient name, age, diagnosis, and laterality data from the screen. This functionality is currently available in WebPT SOAP1 and in Prompt.

Will not read any data from the screen.

Multiple recordings

If multiple ambient recordings are made for a single patient encounter the populated suggestions will be merged.  This means that the suggestions will update with each subsequent recording to take into account the new information gathered.

Multiple recordings will be treated completely separately and will populate as additional selection prompts in the appropriate section of the EMR.

Long vs. short recordings

Better for longer recordings that include lots of conversation (i.e. initial evaluations).

Better for shorter recordings and for inputting targeted objective data.
